EMV Chip Card Technology Coming to LVECU in 2015!

EMV Chip CardDue to increased data breaches at major retailers, LVECU will soon be re-issuing all LVECU debit cards with the latest EMV Chip Technology. Chip card technology is here and major retailers have already started to upgrade their payment terminals. This new technology will revolutionize the card payment industry.

The magnetic-striped credit and debit cards that you use today contain “static” data, or payment data that does not change. The data stored in the magnetic stripe includes your 16-digit card account number, expiration date and 3-digit security code (CVC). Chip cards contain the same data and more. Each purchase or transaction that you make generates “dynamic” or unique data that is encoded in a safe mode. EMV helps protect you even
if your card or card data is lost or stolen. The technology protects against the creation of counterfeit cards because the “dynamic” data is only good for a single purchase or use, and changes with each new purchase. Chip cards do not address online or card-not-present transactions. However, they are much more secure than magnetic strip cards.

LVECU has started the change-over process and will be issuing chip enabled debit cards beginning in 2015. All LVECU debit cardholders will automatically receive the new cards as soon as they become available. All LVECU credit cards will begin the change-over at a later date in 2015.

Annual Meeting

Our annual meeting was held on Saturday, March 14th at Parkland High School. We had a wonderful turnout with just over 170 members in attendance. A report portfolio of our continued solvency and growth was given to members for review (Click here for Board of Directors Annual Report). Eugenia Emert, Nominating Committee Chairperson and board secretary cast a ballot for the election. Robert Bold, Daniel Joseph and Ryan VanNorman were elected to the Board of Directors for a three year term.

Scholarship winners were recognized for their outstanding achievements and we enjoyed a wonderful performance by Skylar, a Parkland High School freshman. There was a variety of fruit and breakfast pastries to snack on, as well as a full breakfast of french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and more. The morning wrapped up with a raffle of over 40 door prizes. We would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Lori Seier and the Parkland High School cafeteria staff for the great service, and Mark Stutz, PHS Art Director for coordinating the entertainment.
