Shred Day

We held our first Electronic Recycling Day along with our Annual Shred Day on Saturday, May 30th
at the main office from 9 am to 12 pm. There was a steady stream of cars all morning recycling everything from old grade books to broken printers and faxes. We plan on holding a paper Shred Day again in the fall, so watch our website for details!

Rejected for a Loan? Stage a Comeback

Getting rejected for a loan can feel like a kick in the teeth. No way around it, rejection is painful.

But consider looking at a loan rejection from a different perspective, suggests Katie Moore, a Detroit, Mich., financial counselor with GreenPath, a national nonprofit credit counseling organization that partners with hundreds of credit unions nationwide.

“Being denied for a loan,” Moore says, “is a wake-up call. It’s a red flag showing that something is going on in your financial situation that either you’re not aware of or you’re not acknowledging. You need to figure out what that is.”

National Credit Union Youth Month

This year’s National Credit Union Youth Month was celebrated in April with the theme “Wild About Saving!”.

We opened 22 youth accounts and saw 263 youth members deposit a total of
$53,434! Kirby members received double Kirby Credits and giveaways at each
office including snacks, jungle print notepads and pencil & a candy bar.
Claim Your Youth (CYY) members received a candy bar and were able to
enter our CYY quarterly drawing for $100.

There was also a drawing for 4 LV Zoo Family Ticket Packs, and a Grand
Prize Family Membership to the LV Zoo including a personalized brick
on the Penguin Pathway, plus the lucky winner was able to adopt
an animal of their choice at the zoo.
