Annual Meeting
Our annual meeting was held on Saturday, March 16th at Parkland High School. We had a nice turnout with over 100 members in attendance. Annual reports from the Board of Directors, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer were presented to the membership for review. Eugenia Emert, Nominating Committee Chairperson and Board Secretary/Treasurer, cast the ballot for the election. William Ayers, Daniel Weaver and Dennis Nemes were elected to the Board of Directors for a three-year term. Sherri Molitoris was elected to fill the unexpired two-year term for Robert Bold who resigned in March 2019.
Our 10 scholarship winners were recognized for their outstanding achievements. There was a variety of fruit and breakfast pastries to snack on, as well as a full breakfast of french toast, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns and more. The morning wrapped up with a raffle of over 30 door prizes. We would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Lori Seier and the Parkland High School cafeteria staff for the great service.

2019 Scholarship Winners
This is the 18th year LVECU has offered scholarships to our young members who are continuing their education. Once again, we awarded ten $1,000 scholarships. Since the program’s inception, we have awarded $175,000 in scholarships.

In order to be eligible for a scholarship, applicants needed to complete an application, write an essay, have a GPA of at least 2.75, participate in extracurricular activities or community service and include a letter of recommendation. We had many qualified applicants and the Scholarship Committee had a difficult time choosing the 10 winners.
We would like to congratulate the following recipients:
Ashley Adamson – Ashley will be graduating from Freedom High School this year. She is planning on attending Moravian College in the fall to study Marketing & Communication. Ashley is on the Bethlehem Area School District Mini-thon committee, works at Panera Bread and volunteers at St. Luke’s.
Madison Anthony – Madison is a 2016 graduate of Southern Lehigh High School and is a junior at Mansfield University. She is a Music Education major with a minor in Spanish. Madison has made the Dean’s List every semester, is a member of the Mansfield Marching Band, Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association and a member of the FRC Robotics Team.
Maxine Gale Lapp – Maxine is a graduate of Liberty High School and is currently a freshman at Marywood University. She is an Art Therapy major and has worked as an Art Therapy assistant. Maxine made the honor roll all 4 years at Liberty and has received the Eastern Region Pennsylvania State Education Association Scholarship, the Charles J and Margaret S McCarty Endowment Scholarship and the Roland J Wotring Scholarship, to name a few.
Gretchen Helsel – Gretchen is currently a senior at Salisbury High School and is planning on attending Messiah College in the fall, where she will major in Elementary Education with a minor in ESOL. She is a member of the National Honor Society, President of the Student Taking Active Roles Club and a member of the Varsity Softball Team.
Ryan Hippensteel – Ryan graduated from Northwestern Lehigh High School in 2017 and is a sophomore at Penn State University, where he is studying Supply Chain Management. Ryan has made the Dean’s List 3 times, is a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon, an Axis-Thon Organization member and an Intramural Referee.
Michael Lewis – Michael is a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School and is a freshman at American University. He is majoring in Justice, Law and Criminology. Michael was a 2-time state champion wrestler in high school and is a member of the American University Wrestling Team. He is also a recipient of the Tony Iasiello Scholarship.
Alexander Strohl – Alexander is a senior at Allentown Central Catholic High School and is planning on attending the University of Pittsburgh, where he will major in Economics with a minor in Political Science. He is an Eagle Scout, a member of the National Honor Society, the Debate Team, Scholastic Scrimmage Team, the Student Council and founder & president of the Economics Team.
Erika Thomas – Erika graduated from Northwestern Lehigh High School in 2016 and is a junior at Marywood University. She is majoring in Communication Sciences & Disorders and has made the Dean’s List every semester. Erika is a member of the Speech-Language Hearing Club, Zeta Phi Delta Sorority and past member of the Marywood Basketball Team.
Anna Tjeltveit – Anna will be graduating from William Allen High School this spring and plans on attending Wesleyan University in the fall where she will major in English and Creative Writing. Anna is a member of the Wm. Allen HS Chorale, Odyssey of the Mind, the Varsity Tennis Team, the Wm. Allen Construction Company and the founder & president of Empower Allen, which promotes student empowerment, social justice and voter registration.
Chris Whiteman – Chris will be graduating from Lehighton Area High School this year where he participated in Varsity Wrestling, Baseball & Football. He is undecided where he will attend college and plans on majoring in Education with a minor in Sports Management. Chris is a member of the National Honor Society, FBLA, SADD and a Class Officer.
